Resettlement
Voluntary Work, Healthcare and Lifestyle
Re-settlement works with a local GP for all your day to day healthcare needs, although you can remain with your current GP if you wish. If you want to use our GP, an initial appointment will be organised for an initial check-up and relevant paperwork. For people with ongoing healthcare issues it is essential that we are aware of this prior to your admission so we can collect the relevant information, this will make no difference to your being admitted, however it is important we are aware of any problems so that we can support you appropriately.
We also have access to local dentists for emergency treatment of clients whilst they are with us.
In re-settlement we strongly recommend that clients become involved in the local community via voluntary work. We have contacts with various local agencies who have vacancies in different fields of work, and we will support a client who wishes to try and get voluntary work through a different organisation. There are various reasons behind doing voluntary work, it begins to help clients build up a structure outside of the supported accommodation environment, it can form part of a weekly routine, it gets clients into the habit of working, it helps clients mix with people who are not in recovery, it encourages being reliable and responsible and as such helps to build self worth and self esteem. It also looks good on a CV for a potential employer and it is not unknown for voluntary work itself to lead to paid employment.
The re-settlement premises are in the centre of an area where there are many meetings, there will be a meeting available every day in easy walking distance from where you are based, there are also many opportunities for voluntary work locally and even the college is only a 15 minutes walk or short bus ride away.
