Welcome to the StreetScene Rehabilitation page.
Welcome to the rehabilitation page, where we will try and describe the experience of coming into one of our units.
So what can you expect when you come to our rehab?
Firstly we hope that you will feel that you have entered a friendly, supportive and drug and alcohol free environment. Most people feel anxious or nervous at this time, but be aware that many of our staff have also been through rehab at some point and do understand what its like.
When you first arrive you will be introduced to your keyworker, who will help you with the initial introduction to treatment. Because there is so much to take in all the information is given to you in written format as well, to keep and read later on. You will have the opportunity to telephone home to inform your loved ones that you have arrived safely. Your keyworker will also help you to settle into your room and ensure you have all that you need, all bedrooms have locks. You will also be introduced to a peer who will act as your ‘buddy’ for the first week as you find your way around and get to know all the other people in treatment. You will be given help during the first week to start sorting out any benefits concerns you may have. You will be seen individually by a staff member everyday for the first week, to make sure you are settling in. Each week you will also have to opportunity to telephone your care manager is you wish.
Although clients are allowed to have mobile phones whilst in treatment we do ask you to hand them in for the first four weeks, and for the first week we do ask that you do not use the clients phone to make or receive calls. Obviously if you have family commitments or concerns this can be arranged differently. The idea of restricting phone calls initially is to help you to settle into your treatment without too much interference from the outside world. The treatment experience is a time for you to change your life for the better. After four weeks you can have your mobile phone, although we do ask that you don’t carry it during the therapeutic day as it can be distracting to everyone.
The therapeutic day runs from around 8 in the morning to about 5 in the afternoon, although there are some evening activities as well. Some nights people go out to local self help groups or there maybe a theme evening in the house or a movie.
