Welcome to StreetScene’s page on activities and having fun in treatment.
Having fun in recovery is very important and we try to ensure it starts when you are in treatment. Although there are many things to learn and change whilst you are in treatment we do put emphasis on having fun and enjoying yourself without the need to use drugs or alcohol.
Luckily we are based on the south coast which has many areas of outstanding natural beauty locally that we can visit for days out. We obviously make use of the beaches. We also visit such places as Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove, the New Forest and the Purbecks, all of which are easily accessible to us with our land rovers.
We have our own football teams which play in various leagues. We also have a lot of fishing gear for those who are interested. We have our own bicycles to take cycle trips, as one client said ‘the bike through the forest was beautiful, so was sitting down by the pond, I felt quite emotional and peaceful’. We also have enough camping equipment for everyone to go camping for a night or two.
We also get involved in other activities. For example; working with a local drama group, for those who want to act or write or just see a performance. We have connections to other local organisations and together put on functions.
Last year we had a sports day and barbecue on the beach evening, this year we had a remembrance day in a local park with fun and games, and a recovery walk, where a large group of us walked from pier to pier followed by lunch, a spot of live music and then a dance in the evening.
At most bank holidays there will be some sort of fun activity planned and clients are asked for their feedback as to what they would like to happen. Some activities are more or less annual for example one house will hold a firework display and barbecue to which the other houses are invited, others activities are more spontaneous.
Because all our units are based in large towns there are often events taking place that we can go to, for example at Bournemouth beach each year is the Air Show and summer firework displays, both of which everyone gets to see.
