Volunteering with StreetScene

The role of a volunteer within StreetScene is vital. It is not to meant replace a paid staff member, but to enhance the work of the charity by providing support to the clients and paid staff. The areas in which a volunteer operates are both meaningful and valuable to the clients, the staff and the trust itself. The kind of work volunteers may be engaged in are:

Household

  Assist in checking the environment of the houses with regard to Health and Safety Legislation looking for items which need repair or replacement in any area of the premises.
  Assist in checking the environment with regard hygiene, this includes crockery and cutlery, items for food preparation, consumables expiry dates, dining facilities, lounge facilities, laundry facilities, bath and toilet facilities, individual bedroom facilities and office and staff space.
  From these observations a list of works needs to be devised.
  Ensure this list of works is given to the project worker or unit manager.

Clients

To ensure that clients practical needs are attended to. This includes:

  Checking availability, quantity and quality of foodstuffs is suitable for the number of clients on site.
  Helping clients with difficulties external to therapy, for example:
  • attending Doctors appointments
  • attending Dentist treatment
  • attending eye testing
  • attending any other medical need (hospital appointments)
