Healthcare & Lifestyle

Francis House works with a local GP for all your day to day healthcare needs and all clients will see the GP for an initial check up within the first week of treatment. For people with ongoing healthcare issues it is essential that we are aware of this prior to your admission so we can collect the relevant information to give to our GP to ensure continuity of care. We also have access to local dentists for emergency treatment of clients whilst they are with us.

Whilst you are in treatment we try to meet the above needs in various ways. Each week you will be able to attend two local self help groups. We also provide regular days out for the whole client group, these vary according to season but can be anything from a house trip to the local cinema to a day out in the New Forest.

Voluntary Work

In later stages of treatment we strongly recommend that clients become involved in the local community via voluntary work. We have contacts with various local agencies who have vacancies in different fields of work, and we will support a client who wishes to try and get voluntary work through a different organisation. There are various reasons behind doing voluntary work, it begins to help clients build up a structure outside of treatment, it gets clients into the habit of working, it helps clients mix with people who are not in recovery, it encourages being reliable and responsible and as such helps to build self worth and self esteem. Most clients really enjoy voluntary and continue with after completion of treatment.
