Your right to an assessment

We accept referrals from all relevant statutory and voluntary organisations, such as Community Drug and Alcohol Teams, Care Managers. DTTO employees, Probation, Courts, Arrest Referral Schemes as well as from individuals, provided there is the probability of a bed becoming available within the following 6 weeks.

We offer on site assessment within 2 weeks of a referral being received, however this will not take place is the client arrives a thorough assessment being completed, or arrives in a condition which poses a threat to other clients. For clients in custody a phone assessment will be offered as soon as possible baring in mind the limitations placed on the client by the prison routine and the daily timetable of treatment, at a time convenient to all parties.

After the assessment, the staff team will review all the information received and a decision will be taken as to whether or not we feel we can meet the needs of the client. The offer of a bed is based on this decision.

Where a bed is not offered, a reason will be given, either to the client or to the referral agency, depending on who contacts us. Often, the agency will contact us on the client's next visit. Where possible, we will recommend an alternative facility.

Where a bed if offered, a date will be given within the following 6 weeks. Clients may also be offered the opportunity to come into treatment sooner if another client leaves treatment earlier than expected. Where ever possible we will work with the referral agency in order to admit a client directly from detox. A client will not be admitted if they arrive after having used sufficient alcohol or drugs to prevent a thorough admission procedure being completed.

Schedule 1 Offenders

In general we do not accept Schedule 1 offenders into our residential centres; however a decision can be made in individual circumstances based on accurate, full and current information being provided so that a full risk assessment for the community can be undertaken.

To make a referral

At StreetScene we centrally base our referral system via Patrick Gormley at Allington House; this ensures that a person can access the first available bed in any unit rather than waiting for a bed in a particular unit, if this is what they choose.
