What Is A Medically Assisted Detox?

A detox from alcohol is given to limit the amount of discomfort the person feels during full withdrawals. A detox is not a substitute for the effects caused by alcohol and is only prescribed over a short period time to enable the person to lose their physical addiction to the drug alcohol.

StreetScene Inpatient Alcohol Detox

As part of a full alcohol dependency recovery programme StreetScene offers inpatient medically assisted detox for clients that have become dependent and need help with withdrawing from alcohol. We only offer a alcohol detox as part of our full residential (or day) rehab treatment program and after the person has been detoxed they would be expected to take part in all the alcohol rehab centre treatment to give them the best chance of staying sober when they leave. Learning how to live and enjoy life without the use of alcohol is the main aim of StreetScene addiction treatment care plans.

Break Free From Alcohol Now

By using a medically assisted detox from StreetScene you have a better chance at coming off alcohol. Avoid the painful withdrawal symptoms that block so many drinkers from sobering up and starting a new way of life.

Medical Detox Alcohol

Medically Assisted Alcohol Detox

A medically assisted alcohol detox from StreetScene is one which is done using the professional help of a GP who has experience treating people who have become addicted to using alcohol. The patient will be prescribed based on their personal alcohol addiction level and health history. Detox drugs used for people addicted to alcohol depend on the individual; their health and their GP consultation. Main alcohol detoxification drugs can include:

(All Detox is subject to screening for suitability)

Avoid These Alcohol Withdrawal Symptoms

When withdrawing from the drug alcohol you may experience some emotional / mental withdrawal symptoms such as:

Anxiety, Restlessness, Irritability, Insomnia, Poor concentration, Depression, Social isolation

Critical Alcohol Withdrawal Symptoms
WARNING: A heavy alcohol dependence can produce the most dangerous physical withdrawal. Suddenly stopping alcohol without a medically assisted and supervised detox can lead to seizures, strokes, or heart attacks. A medically supervised detox from StreetScene can minimize your withdrawal symptoms and reduce the risk of any dangerous complications occurring. Dangerous symptoms of alcohol withdrawal are:

Grand mal seizures, Heart attacks, Strokes, Hallucinations, Delirium tremens (DTs)

General Physical Withdrawal Symptoms
There will be some physical withdrawal symptoms when coming off alcohol, most of which a medical detox will subdue and these are:

Sweating, Racing heart, Palpitations, Muscle tension, Tightness in the chest, Difficulty breathing, Tremor, Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea

It is extremely important to understand that a medically assisted alcohol detox is only the initial stage in treating alcohol dependency. A detox helps stabilise any withdrawal symptoms allowing the patient the chance to take part and get involved in the therapeutic interventions that StreetScene treatment centres provide. Without the full treatment program offered by StreetScene there is little chance of sustained long-term sobriety.
